Guided meditation to fight stress, anxiety and worry.
When starting a meditation practice, the first question to ask yourself is: what do I want to achieve? In other words, what is my goal? There are many different meditation techniques, many spiritual traditions, and you can also choose whether you want them guided or unguided. The preference varies from person to person, but before deciding what suits you best, it is worth exploring what each option involves.
5 tips for meditating
Meditation helps us be more present, sleep better and be happier overall. Here are 5 tips that are useful when starting a meditation practice.
- 1. Find a time and a space where you can be alone, without interruptions. It can help to tell family members in advance that you are going to meditate. It is also a good idea to turn off your phone for the moment.
- 2. Make sure there is enough oxygen in the room; you may need to open the windows for a while.
- 3. Are your clothes comfortable? You may want to change into something more casual or athletic.
- 4. Prepare the space: use a chair that lets you sit without leaning back, or if you prefer to meditate on the floor with crossed legs, lay out a yoga mat or blanket mindfully and slowly. Place your meditation cushion or any other support with a sense of calm. You could light a candle or keep a vase of flowers nearby, and you may like to set up an inspiring image that motivates you.
- 5. Sit comfortably, balance your head over your spine, look downward or close your eyes, and bring your attention to the present moment.
